Welcome, Eric. This is good timing as a few here just suggested that we should be more mentorly. :tonguecheek: The Chattanooga grotto or the Pigeon Mountain grotto would be good places to start. There are many friendly cavers hereabouts and you are in cave 'heaven'. If you have problems give me a shout I'll round up a cave for you. Kent Ballew

Welcome to the forum.

By all means look around at gear online, but I suggest you contact/meet up with local cavers first. Find out what they use and recommend before spending your hard-earned money on something you might not want or need. Many cavers also have spare items they are willing to loan out to beginners for trips.

You have a few local pointers already, but if you need more we also have a nifty page which lets you find websites and contact details of grottos in your area here

Good luck!

The chattanooga grotto are some good people. You will be in good hands!

Hi Eric,
Welcome to the forum! You are certainly invited to attend the next Pigeon Mountain grotto meeting on Friday March 4th. We will be meeting at our usual location which is the upstairs meeting room of the Rock Spring branch of the Bank of Lafayette on US 27 in Rock Spring GA at 7 PM.
If you are interested we also have a cave trip lined up for this weekend on Saturday. PM or email me if you are interested.
