New to the serious side of the sport, from Seattle area.

Postby ChrisW » Dec 30, 2010 1:17 am

Hey there. I'm Chris, 25, and in the Navy. Currently finishing up overseas, I'll be back to WA in June. I'm a newbie to serious caving, but after a few experiences in the Ohiopyle area of PA and a couple in the PNW, I've decided to add this to the list of activities. I'm looking for anyone else that's in the PNW area and newish to the sport, so that we can dive at our own levels and gain experience. In the same stroke, I also surf, snowboard, scuba, skydive, backpack (mostly alpine), and do some moderate climbing. I'm starting to get into ice climbs. So anyone who's interested in getting out and being active in the PNW, drop a message.

In March, I'm visiting Europe. I'm trying to line up a trip into Holloch, as it seems it would be a waste not to do it while there. Does anyone have any contact info for a guide in the area? I've sent out a couple emails, and recieved no responses. Any help would be appreciated!

Chris, welcome to the forum. To visit Holloch you must have a guide from the AGH. Here is their web site: http://www.hoelloch.org/web/ I don't have any contacts now, but caved there a lot many years ago.

Good grief..I just checked the AGH site and they state they do not provide tourist trips, but they do provide a link to here: http://www.trekking.ch/deu/caving/info_hoh.asp and this is a business! (At the top is a switch for English language) So, Holloch is now commercialized as is the Pierre St. Martin cave in France. Incredible.
:yikes:

When you're in Seattle, feel free to look up Cascade Grotto (the local chapter of the NSS). Website here.
