Dan,
You bring up a good point, and one I am not familiar with. Coming from Missouri, where the density of caves are off the chart, I have been spoiled. I know that the areas from about Southern Mo over to eastern KY/TN are loaded with caves. While in MO, I was training with a guy who commonly went into lechuguilla (near Carlsbad, NM). He built me an amazing rope walker, and I would likely have gone on a trip with him to letch had I not moved away for a job (wish I had not moved). I only know of a few scattered caves in the area of South TX over to Cali. I am not aware of the density of caves in your area or the entire region. How does the density compare?
I noticed the NSS convention is in your area. So your grottos are active with lots of members? What age range? (I am 44).

Thanks - Paul

Deepest pits in the states are where these 3 states come together. A true vertical playground and most of the cavers there aren't in grottos, from what the locals have told me.

I love it down there and if I had the chance to relocate to chattanooga, i would do it in a heartbeat.

Chad,
I enjoyed Perryville caving when I was in your area - one my of my faves. You provided very helpful information about TAG area, counts, types of caves and member grotto info. This is very helpful. I am seeing a trend to that area. Now the question is are there single women too about 33-45. That remains to be seen. I should look up TAG meetings. It seems no main meeting occur until about 7 months from now.
Thanks much - Paul

I have had an email for what I look like and more information about me to pass on to female friends. I decided to post it publicly. I was also asked what I want, it's someone with a passion to explore caves, of course!

Well, if I were single, I wouldn't limit myself to finding someone who has to be a caver, just find someone who loves the outdoors and you can go from there. I only got into caving because I moved here from Manhattan, kansas. My wife graduated K-State, got a job in Jackson with the MDC and here we are. A short time later I noticed the big holes in the ground everywhere and no creeks. Talked to one of my neighbors and he told me of passages the size of football fields under perryville. I had to see it for myself so I started looking and met the local cavers and the rest is history. since then, my mind has been blown by the size of some of the boreholes and rooms under the town, or just outside the city limits. Who knew????? Glad you liked the area I live in because I really lucked out.

I went from rock climbing vertical to SRT vertical once I got into caving, then I went to tag with the guys and holy crap. I would be in heaven down there with all the deep pits.

How long ago were you with KCAG? you know Jim Cooley and Bill Gee I take it?

I was in KCAG form about 1995-1998, and I do not know those names. I did one presentation to the group about being related to William Burke Miller (the reporter who tried to get Floyd Collins out of a KY cave in the 1925), and I still have Miller's personal file, and it should be in a museum. I went on many trips after the first Test trip, I was invited on more and more trips with the members.

Good luck finding a 30-40 yr old female caver who isn't taken...I'd suggest not limiting your search to just cavers as well. Plenty of other outdoorsy things to do and sports, so as long as whoever you meet isn't crazy claustrophic just take her underground and introduce her to caving!

My search is actually for outdoorsy with the hope of non-claustrophic. But, of course, I would like her to go caving with me.

I love Colorado and Arizona caves as much as (more than) the next guy, but neither of those states can hold a candle to TAG for cave density.

Not even close.

Now that we live in the WNS era it's worth mentioning too that TAG has shown the greatest commitment to keeping caves open of any U.S. caving area. Not only did they start out with the most caves, you can still go in them for the most part.

Great caving scene there too. That's what I miss the most. Great caves, really great folks.

It gets sort of lonely and weird out here in Utah.

Living in north Alabama (Huntsville), there are no less than about 5000 caves within an hour drive.

Show caves? Who needs that? Two of my friends got married in a wild cave, with an mile hike up the valley.

Sounds like a wonderful resource to entrust to the NSS Museum! A visit to Huntsville is in order!

Andy,
Thanks for sharing. Before leaving this message TN was a target area for the caves and the tax haven (little or no state income tax).
I am still open to all comments from anyone about where to go and why, and of course open to suggestions of where to find a soul mate. So far, the winner appears to be TN (south near GA/AL).
I have always dreamed of having a business that would allow me to live anywhere and cave. With your guidance I can be the happiest. Thanks to every contributor so far. Even if I haven't commented to each of you, I value your opinion and information.

HOLYSHITAWESOME. Honestly though the reason I would stick more with show is my mom is handicapped...not sure she could even travel to where a show cave would *be* but if she was gonna be there, it'd have to be easy paved path for a wheelchair. Actually, my family would be very anti-any-wedding-not-in-a-church. :/  I guess do a church wedding to keep the fam happy then do pretend wedding in a wild cave.

Gee...I'm weird. I'm silly to even think that far ahead xD But can't help it. For example, I decided a long time ago I didn't want a fancy ring. It'd get caught in the gloves i wear all the time in the lab too easily. xD

Fortunately, Stephens Gap permits walking down to that spot. What a beautiful picture. Joel Sneed got married at the bottom of Neversink! Everyone attending had to walk up the mountain and rappel down to the wedding and then climb back out.

We have only one canyon in town with caves in it......but what a beautiful canyon it is. We had over 90 people show up for our Christmas party we held inside Cave of the Winds tour cave. We have singles in all age groups......including yours. I found my true love at one of our grotto meeting many years ago. (Andy, you met LP at that small party rescue class you helped teach a few months ago :waving: ) Andy's right....not much density here...but we do have diversity. The deepest granite cave is just up the road from Williams Canyon. Cost of living is low. Homes are relatively cheap. No humidity or bugs to speak of. Lots of outdoor things to do besides caving.....like skiing or hiking Pikes Peak. Best bet is to come check out the convention next year. Here is the promo video.. http://nss2011.com/promo-video/

Agreed.

What the western states lack in density they make up for in diversity and quality. In Utah we have alpine, desert, limestone, lava, vertical, deep, horizontal, hot spring, ice, dry, and wet caves. The mountains and scenery are also breathtaking.

One thing that keeps me in the west is a different kind of density. LOW population density! There's a whole lot of room and freedom out here.
