Sad day for cave divers - Wes Skiles

Postby FW » Jul 22, 2010 7:00 am

World class cavediving film maker, Wes Skiles, passed away yesterday (July 21). He was working on a video off West Palm, FL. He was on a rebreather at the time. I have no other details right now.

My condolences to his family, and many caving buddies.

Edit: I just heard it was actually off Marathon, FL.
Later Edit: the link below confirms the original the West Palm location

That is so sad. An article about him and the Bahamas Blue Holes is in this month's National Geographic. His photos are glorious.

I just read the paper and saw this. I can't beleive it. He was such a nice guy and a great asset to the cave diving and caving community.

I just read that article earlier this week. Very sad news.
Letting the days go by / water flowing underground
Into the blue again / in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones / there is water underground.

This is so sad, and such a shock. Wes was a giant in underwater photography, cave exploration, and in efforts to conserve FL's springs and aquifers. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

It's so disheartening that we've lost two cave photography greats, Chip Clark and Wes, this summer.

Wes was a friend who let us camp at his house many times while diving in Florida. I don't have the words to say how much we will miss him.
