Large TN Rock Slide Caught on Video

Postby Scott McCrea » Nov 10, 2009 8:10 pm

:yikes: :yikes:   :omg: Damn Nature--you scary!

The Ocoee Gorge is in the extreme southeast corner of TN near Ducktown. No caves in the area, but the Ocoee is a very popular paddling river. The paddling events during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics were held on the Ocoee near this slide.

What freaks me out is how nonchalant the guy in the video is. If I saw that much rock fall on the road in front of me, I'd worry about the entire mountain falling down! :yikes: :yikes:
Darkness is impossible to remember. Consequently, cavers desire to return to the unseen depths where they have just been.
Darkness never satisfies. Darkness cannot satisfy. Especially if it takes something away, which it almost invariably does.

Time to relocate the road I think.

This section of road re-opened today. Yea! We NC cavers now have a way to get to TAG without having to do a huge detour. :woohoo:

It's crazy how different this now looks when you drive through. They installed quite a reinforcement system in the rock wall, scary to think about that happening in person.

They caught something like that happen here in far northern California last winter. There are a few caves in the area... and, for a while, a very long detour.
