Thanks for the kind words! We had a lot of fun doing it.

I'll have to get someone to send me the setlist, but the players were:

Van Bergen (Washington) - Keyboards
Marian Davidson (California) - Vocals
Jake Cox (Kansas City) - Harp and vocals
Mike Taylor (Arkansas) - Bass
Cephas Wozencraft (Texas) - Drums
Vivian Lofton (Texas) - Saxaphone and vocals
Bill Stone (Texas) - Guitar and vocals
Bob Alderson (Virginia) - Guitar and vocals
Lisa Goggin (Texas) - Percussion and vocals
Keith Goggin (Texas) - Guitar and vocals

Also sitting in were Fofo from Mexico and Kevin Downey from Massachusetts

I think that's everybody, I swear it always seems like there are more folks on stage than on the dancefloor!

We've been doing this most years since 1985, and this was definitely the best year ever - both for the band and the crowd. I'm glad you had fun!

Keith

Oh yeah, if anyone got any decent photos, please let me know!

Well, better late than never...

In addition to the guest musicians that Keith listed, we also had a guy named Michael (I think) from somewhere in Europe sit in on flute; we resurrected Locomotive Breath for him to play on. We also had Gary Franklin sit in on drums, and Andrea Davenport on keys. It was definitely one of the most fun Syphons gigs I've ever played; great venue, great crowd.

Here is the set list we were supposed to follow. I know we made some changes on the fly, but I don't remember what they were (except for the addition of Locomotive Breath, and the addition of one more Led Zep tune that Fofo played on). Please feel free to post corrections! Sorry, I don't have the original artists' names. The Syphon who sang lead is in parens:

BEFORE YOU ACCUSE ME (Keith)
HONKY TONK WOMAN (Jake)
WALK OUT IN THE RAIN (Keith)
TEXAS FLOOD (Jake)
BREAKDOWN (Marion)
I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL (Marion)
BIRDS OF A FEATHER (Bill)

This was definitely an epic Syphons show, and I have been to the last 12. Thank you guys so much for the good vibes. It was a dance-a-rama for what seemed like about 4 hours. I ran into pk the next morning and we agreed that we both looked pretty tired from the non-stop aerobic workout. I don't think I have ever been spanked by as many spatulas either. Oh wait, I'm sure I haven't!

Awesome setlist, awesome musicians. Thanks again!

FYI, we played "Locomotive Breath" right after "I Love Rock and Roll" on Van's list, and we played "Whole Lotta Love" after Zepp's "Rock and Roll." Keith also worked in a few verses of "Stormy Monday" into the middle of "Five Long Years." And I agree with everyone else--this was one of the most fun Syphons shows in years. I still wake up some mornings with songs we played that night stuck in my head for the day.

All Syphons fans need to work on the Vermont convention staff: word is, they may not have enough money for us to play the Wednesday night party in 2010. Of course, the band never gets paid, but rental of sound gear, some instruments and amps, etc., can be $500 or more, and with small conventions, they worry about how that will impact the overall budget.

Any potential benefactors out there?

Shoestring budget conventions that can't even pay for the basics are bogus. I bet the beer will run out at about 8:30 as well. Why do we even do this to ourselves?

The Syphons will be there. Everything is being worked out. As for beer, don't go negative & make assumptions. This convention will be as great as any you have attended.

There will be an opportunity to cave. Gear will be provided, so you do not have to take a chance of taking any contanimants home. A decon station will be set up so you can clean the gear between trips. :cave softly:

There are also a lot of other recreational activities are available. Check the web site for more details.

At the COG you will have an opportinity to provide input for the stragegic plan for the long term direction of the NSS. :argue: If you miss this opportunity, you may not have another.

Hope to see you all at the "Cool Convention" :kewl:

I apologize for the negative beer comments. It has just been my experience that far-flung conventions outside of prime caving country tend to shut off the beer way too early. I look forward to you proving me wrong!
