2009 ICS/NSS Friday Banquet

Postby cavedoc55 » Jul 26, 2009 8:45 pm

Attendees of the 2009 Annual NSS Awards banquet were heard to wonder aloud: "WHERE'S THE BEEF?"

Friday's NSS banquet was sorely lacking in several ways, but the Saturday ICS banquet was
much much better in all ways!

Anmar, back home after 23 hours on the road :)

I think for the ~45 dollars spent on each of us they could have had some soda

:agree:
Jansen, after 12 hours of flights and stopovers, then a little sleep, then about 4 hours of packing and moving stuff out the old apartment. Phew! :panic:

Hey Herman, I enjoyed meeting you in person. I also agree about the soda. Some of us prefer refreshing non-alcoholic beverages that aren't just cold tea. I met some Texan cavers who were surprised to find there was also no beer, and didn't know they could BYO. But hey, at least there was meat for the second banquet.

2009 ICS/NSS Friday Banquet

Postby Ernie Coffman » Jul 27, 2009 6:00 pm

Glad to learn that they had a better dinner on Saturday, since we opted not to attend because of Friday's. Ah, yes! As for figures, I believe it was $38 for each night, but...having to wait for that hiccup on Friday was a pain you know where. And, I agree with you, no soda, no beer was a real bummer, what with that heat. 101 at 1630 on Friday and those who participated in parking the vehicles put their all into getting straight lines and all. Sooooo...NZ, did you do it all by yourself on Saturday? Had to chuckle about Herman, for he was on the team in CA and hadn't seen him since. Says he's a big-wig now that he's out of the service and working for the Feds, so that's great news. Gotta have someone working out there and knowing what the business is all about. We had various types of meat on Saturday, but at a great Mexican restaurant there in Kerrville--El Charro--and decent prices compared to a lot of the others. :kewl: We had to leave the campus at 0430, so that was part of the reason for not going out to Surprise Ranch...and needing to get our act together. As it was, I had a phone call from Lisa just as we landed in Medford, Oregon, so...go figure! Oh, well! It all worked out, thanks to a lot of folks that stepped up to the plate; and, congratulations to you NZ for your winning pix! Great stuff!

Even with the early week disorganization ( to be expected of an event of this magnitude) and the outdoor banquets I still hold that this convention was great. But :yikes: with sister winky being absent I fear for the 2010 convention in Vermont and whatever natural disaster may come due to the lack of a sacrifice at this years convention.

Did anyone else see the picture here of Barbara with her white nose at the Banquet? It seems someone deleted it. How odd.

You're looking in the wrong topic, Phil. See the rare white-nosed squirrel girl here.

Hey , I paid full Monty for the Congress and so did my travelling buddy. We missed the Howdy Party and Left Friday night after Mark Minton was crowned a Bicking-ite. We still had a great time even though someone was eating our food on Monday and Saturday night.
