ICS/NSS Convention 2009 - Cavechat gathering?

Postby NZcaver » May 24, 2009 5:59 pm

Hey... what do you folks think about having some type of informal gathering for forum members at the ICS? :woohoo:

I'm thinking it might be fun to meet and greet at the Howdy Party, especially if any of our international members are attending. Didn't we have a Cavechat banner printed out at one of the previous conventions? I think some of us even printed out little caveman pictures and stuck them on our convention IDs, and/or added our cavechat user names.

Anybody interested? :banana_yay:

How about at the ICS campground on Monday July 20 starting around 7PM? :big grin: [Edit - I'm suggesting we have a gathering during the Howdy Party for convenience.]

If we stake out a place among the festivities, perhaps we could set up a banner and maybe some type of "hook." Food, drink, and/or free stuff is always good, but it would have to be cheap and easy because our forum budget is - er - non-existent. Any ideas?

But, the Howdy Party is on Monday night and could start at 6:00 PM. I'll be engorged with food and drink by 7 PM.

Exactly! I meant we should gather at the Howdy Party. The convention schedule http://www.ics2009.us/weeklysched.pdf says the Howdy Party will be in the campground starting at 1900 hours.

Mmmmm, engorged with food and drink....

I think we should have a round table discussion on cows tails, or perhaps WNS decontamination procedures.

I'll be over at the rest of the Howdy Party assiduously avoiding the Cavechat Party.

I would really love to see this bunch in one place. I may consider shaving a day or two off my Golondrinas trip just to meet you all!

There is a Twitter site for cavers coming to Kerrville.

Only one week to go! :banana_yay:

First the bad news:
The NSS failed to approve our budget for a million-dollar Cavechat pool party with unlimited food and drink and many famous celebrities. :sadbanana:
Alas no big banner, and no free Cavechat merchandise either.

Now the good news...
We're cavers, and we're pretty good at entertaining ourselves! :toast: :bananaguitar:

So as you're meeting and greeting at the ICS - and especially during the Howdy Party on Monday evening - keep an eye open for fellow Cavechatters and maybe you can match a few faces to the text.

But how will you recognize these Cavechat faces, you ask?

Well, a couple of years ago our former administrator Wayne created a small logo image which can be printed out and taped or glued to any blank space on your convention ID badge. Yep, it's the good ol' "so easy a caveman can do it" guy. Brilliant!

(Yes I know we don't display the caveman graphic on the forum any more (or any unique logo besides the NSS one), but stealing Wayne's old idea was the best I could come up with at the last moment.)

So if you want to proudly display your NSS forum affiliation, print this NOW and take it with you to stick on your convention ID! :goodjob:

Wayne Harrison wrote:The image appears large on screen (which is 72 dpi) but if you print it at 300 dpi, it will be just over an inch high a look a lot better. You can scale it to whatever size you want once you get it on your computer.

Here's a small image at 72 dpi, if you can't get the larger resolution sized down:

Thanks, Wayne! :kewl:
