1500 Foot Zip Line... what a rush!

Postby CaverScott » Sep 22, 2008 7:00 am

For both of our Birthdays, Jules and I decided to go on a Canopy Tour at Banning Mills, Georgia. (Near Carrollton). Dave Mcrae, Cindy, and Cheryl joined us and we had a blast. Imagine the Tyrolean Traverse, but four times as long! Here are some videos and photo links for those so inclined. Want to do it yourself? Just google Banning Mills Canopy Tour.

CaverScott on the third zipline. Pay attention at 13 seconds to see the lodge building on right and then I pan to the creek we cross over around 18 seconds. This video was done thanks to Dave McRae who designed a camera mount we could hold in our mouths!

Watched those from TAG-NET... looked like a blast. There's another one on youtube somewhere that shows a 2 (?) mile long 1000 foot high zipline created in Africa. Speeds get up to about 70 mph and you go flat out on your belly, ala Superman.

Zips are fun... if done right. This one we created over a short expanse of a highway didn't quite work out like we planned. :big grin:

Definately a fun time. You need to get a DCG trip together. The Bham grotto is "abuzz" about doing a group trip, once the 2600 footer is finished. :kewl:

They installed a zipline outside of Las Vegas near Boulder City. I was hoping to do it last summer, but they weren't fully up and running then. I think it's supposed to be 4000'
