Newbie from Maryland

Postby 95formula847 » Jan 24, 2009 4:14 pm

Hey whats up. My name is josh. Lately a freind and I have been interested in caving/ spelunking. We have no experience other than the few small caves around our hometowns. Just looking to learn about exploring others that are larger and more challenging. Ill probably be posting on the regular as im always on car forums.

Hi, sorry that im no where near maryland. Im a fairly new caver as well. Let me share some of my advice as a newbie. Listen to the older/ more experianced cavers. They have alot of information. The best part is they dont normally have somebody to share it with so it is practically gushing. You can learn so much from them.
Sorry im not a car guy. you would be ashamed of me if you knew what my cars condition was. Im an Aircraft guy. Interesting thing about cavers that ive found, they come from all fields of knowlege. Yet they all love caving.

Hi Josh! Welcome! :waving:

Is there a grotto near you, or near enough to make it to monthly meetings? http://www.nssio.org/Find_Grotto.cfm Joining a grotto is the best way to meet caving buddies, learn skills, learn about equipment, and visit new (and more challenging!) caves. :cavingrocks:

And here are some brochures with info on caves and caving: http://www.caves.org/brochure/index.shtml
