Cave Clean-Up at Talley Cave

Postby Scott Parvin » Nov 2, 2008 8:08 pm

The Clocktower Grotto and SKTF held a very successful Clean-Up of Talley Cave located in Valley Head, Alabama, this past Saturday (11-1-08). There was a great turnout, and I actually had the pleasure of rescuing a toliet that had been thrown into the cave sometime in the past.

Good job Clocktower Grotto and the SKTF!!!!! :woohoo:

It was a bunch of fun!

Unfortunately, the toilet shattered into thousands of pieces when it hit bottom. It took a long time to "pick up the pieces" so to speak. I did see someone wearing the intact seat around their neck for the group photo. Maybe it'll show up soon.

Glad we could clean it up. It definitely needed it. When I stopped by a couple of weekends ago, it looked like some new trash at the bottom of the pit. Nothing big, just small stuff. I am planning to head back over and clean it out this next weekend.

thats realy sad at the end were it caved in was a good bit of trash last time i went in there i think that i got it all then but its been about 6 months ago its sad that we have a few village idiots with nothing to do . brian and ceicl (our local officers) do what they can but they are a little old fassioned sorta like barney and andy. and think awe it wont hurt anything. but a good story was when i saw 2 teens with foldup sholves and a ton of other junk they told me that they were going to dig thru the caved in part but it was more work than what they thought. i think they were tired from carrying all that stuff. anyways when i disscused how dangerous that was and why did they call it a " CAVE IN" you could see the worrieness in their faces one lad keept looking up all the way out

No green markers from my visit, also didn't see the waterfall. Too much cleaning to be done in the front.

I believe the Markers are from the ACS. And yeah the waterfall is pretty hard to get to. But also hard to miss, its labeled in big red letters with arrows. next time you go back check it out.

Sorry for the delayed response to this post. I have not been on CaveChat in a while. The green markers are survey markers for a resurvey of Talley Cave. More will be appearing over the next few months as survey trips continue.

Please also know that Talley Cave is currently a closed cave unless you have a permit. For permission to access the cave, please send me an e-mail: zero 22884 at gmail.com. I am currently the property manager for the land owner.
