July Issue....Who Done It Mystery???

Postby caverdan » Jul 24, 2008 7:08 pm

So there I was....enjoying an article in the July 08 issue of the news about Jackpot Cave. I love these type of history stories about discovery and survey. The story is very well written and kept me riveted to my seat. In the end they found a connection to another cave system making it over 32 miles long. This is the stuff we can only dream about in Colorado. Encredable story up to this point.

But then toward the end......after about 10 pages of story and pictures......it takes a new twist. It talks about how a lady approached the author at the 2007 convention with some shocking news. She told him about how her and a group of friends went back into the cave and resurveyed because they were digging a new entrance. The cave was closed by the owner of the property some years before which ended this project at that time. Cavers hadn't been allowed back since. The news came as quite a shock to other project members and left several questions that I.......as a reader just got to ask. Sorry for being so nosy....but....

1. Who is the mystery lady that first approached the author and why didn't he name her in the article?

2. Was this new entrance being dug from a neighboring property?

(I'm hoping someone can at least PM me the answers to this mystery story. :shhh: )

We deliberately did not want to publish that
information as the information we have is still incomplete
and rather than risk libel, it was safer and simpler to
anonymize it. It's a moot issue since it's a done deal
anyway. Jackpot's entrance has been leased and
exploration has resumed, so I'm happy :) There's
excellent possibilities of more major finds as I had
numerous leads left when we lost access to the cave
several years ago.

Nah, I was much cuter ;)

I didn't *actually* pee my pants, but it was a close deal. I'm also still a little bitter because
I was the one who dug the crawl open to get to the Celestial Borehole. We didn't get in
on that trip because Jonathon's carbide was out of water, and the next trip back was
on a weekend I was away at NCRC weeklong! Needless to say, I'm keeping new leads
a little closer to the chest ;)

Well.......I got my answer to question number 1..........how about an answer to number two?
Was this new entrance being dug from a neighbors property?

(peeing in a carbide lamp is over-rated. :big grin: )

How about telling us the state in which Jackpot Cave is located?

Mil gracias,
Saludos,
Miguel

EDIT: Never mind; I Googled it and found out it's in Kentucky.
