Grivel Salamander helmet

Has anybody tried the Grivel Salamander helmet for caving?

Do its headlamp mounting elastic thingies really work right?

Looks to be the same headlamp-mounting system as the Camp High Star, or at least a very similar one. I own a High Star as an extra helmet, and I can authoritatively say the answer to your question is "not particularly well." I'd consider it an "extra" protection for another headlamp-securing system, like the plastic hooks Petzl sells.

What he said. The back portion of the strap(s) won't stay on something that slick so you'd either have to get hooks for it or use the old caver standby of duck-tape (quack!). I went to the Petzl on line catalog and don't see the hooks listed but I'm sure caving vendors have them in supply.

Since it's a "Salamander" why wouldn't it be good for caving?? Heh

I have one and love it but the way the front one is my apex keep sliding up. I put just two of the petzl clips on it and works fine. I think IMO has them.
I love the little salamanders on the back. Mine is pink! Matches my pink lost creek cave suit.
Caving is fun but people are always more important.

I still use duct tape and wire to hold stuff on my helmet. It isn't pretty but it works. Just to make it look
better, I switched to bright yellow duct tape to make it look better and so that it is easier to see.
