Question about NSS events

Postby CaveJunkie » Jan 6, 2006 1:52 pm

I am a new member and have not yet had the opportunity to attend any of the NSS's major events..... I was wondering if we are allowed to bring guests??? My wife? My caving cohort?

Not that I am shy.....But I dont know any of you jokers! :boxing:

Yep, guests are welcome. But they usually have to be 'sponsored' by a NSS member or something like that. Guests usually have higher registration fees too.

Welcome to the NSS Cavejunkie! :kewl:

Non-NSS members are welcome at NSS Conventions, but will pay a higher registration fee (generally equal to a year's membership), since conventions are one of our membership benefits.

Each NSS Region has its own registration fee policy for non-NSS members attending meetings and weekend events.

Don't worry about not knowing any of us jokers when you go to a caver event -- you'll have many new friends and caving companions by time you leave. :waving: Just don't be shy about introducing yourself, signing up for caving trips, and talking to the other cavers. Cavers can be shy about talking to new faces, but they all love to talk caving.

Hey, you should make sure your caving cohort becomes an NSS member!

Thanks for the info! I figured guests would be welcome but wanted to check first....

As far as the events are concerned:

1. Is there a list of events with dates?
2. Website for those events?

Currently I am active duty :patriotic: Coast Guard working in New Orleans :scuba: ....so I have to schedule my leave in advance.... but I am looking forward to caving with you all sometime soon...

Thanks! Anyone else know of any other events? From the events already listed I may be lucky and be able to attend two events and only have to take 5 days of leave!

SERA Cave Carnival (Is this open to all NSS members?) & Speleofest... :kewl:

Should I be concerned about registering just yet?

CaveJunkie
I feel your pain about scheduling time off. I work for Indian Health Service (part of Dept of Health and Human Services) and have to schedule my time off months in advance. Generally I only need a three month lead, since that's when our appointments go to. Have a lot of patients with diabetes and other chronic conditions that need to see me on a regular basis so it's good medicine!
I'm looking at some of the summer events, and actually plan to make it to convention for the second time in my 28 years of caving!
