:kewl: Better get my pre-reg in soon so I can sign up for a most excellent trip.

So, what's the deal with not allowing Texas systems or bobbins/Stops in Catawba Murder Hole?

BTW, The second sentence in the Aqua description don't make a licka sense.

Not allowing Texas systems or bobbins/stops is a restriction that was made by the cave owners...not by the organizers.

I didn't write the description for Aqua and will make sure it gets changed...thanks for pointing it out!

Yes, it's interesting that Dan and Marian stipulate no bobbins/stops or Texas systems. I'm not sure about different climbing systems, but there were definitely some Stop descenders used in that pit last year during the NCRC weeklong. Perhaps they're providing the ropes, and for some reason see bobbins as a bad thing while Figure 8's are OK. Personally I'm curious to know why, but of course it is their pit and they're perfectly entitled to set the rules.

Maybe they read the French Death Machines thread :big grin: Of course the safety of any system is dependent primarily on the user.
I'm not scared of the dark, it's the things IN the dark that make me nervous. :)

Pre-registrations are flowing in!

The following cave trips are FULL for pre-registration:

Catawba Murder Hole
Culverson Creek
New Castle Murder Hole
Paxtons Cave

Spots on those trips have been held open for on-site registration, but I'm sure they will go fast when on-site sign up starts at 10 PM on Friday.

FALL VAR UPDATE FROM SUSAN BURR:

Pre-registration went VERY well for our Fall VAR. We have cavers coming
from 10 states. If you plan to attend, but didn't pre-register, & want
a guaranteed meal, you may want to send in your registration form with
the $3 post pre-registration deadline fee. We will only be buying 30
additional dinners. Those will be distributed on a first come first
serve basis.

Pre-registration cave trip signs up went well also. Most cavers got
their first or second choice of cave trips. We did manage to get some
of the cave trip limits increased. We left approximately half the slots
available for each cave trip for on site sign up. If you wish to change
cave trips at Friday night sign up, please make sure you remove
yourself from the original trip list. This will make a slot available
for another person.

Coffee will be available on site Saturday morning at the pavilion.

Less than 2 weeks to go!

Look forward to seeing you all there.

FALL VAR UPDATE!!!

We've gotten some requests to permit Thursday night (Sep 18) arrivals at the campground. Unfortunately, in accordance with our agreement with the Moose Lodge, this is not allowed. I wish we could make it happen, but we simply can't.

If you want to camp on Thursday, Douthat State Park is not too far away. Also, Buckhorne Country Store and Campground is near Douthat.

I thought the same thing, but the leader wants to allow plenty of time for the trip and still get back in time for dinner.
