Padded Butt Strap Harness for Frog System

Postby tncaver » Jul 7, 2008 10:17 am

Is there a padded butt strap style seat harness with a low mount front connector made specifically for Frog Systems?
I know there are several low mount harnesses but are there any padded ones with the butt straps on the rear?
This old fat boy could use some padding in the leg loops and around the waist.

I have a really nice old padded butt strap seat harness with a high mount connector that works fine with my rope walker but is
not suitable for the Frog. It is very comfortable however and something similar with a lower front mount for the half moon
screw link would be ideal. But does such a seat harness exist? If not I see a grand opportunity for an enterprising manufacturer
to make and sell a bunch of them.

Tim, thanks for the link to On Rope 1's seat harnesses. It looks like they have exactly what I'm looking for
at a reasonable price.

you COULD look at a tree climbing harness... they're designed for sitting in for long periods... I wore one while trying out the sport of tree-climbing and they're pretty comfortable. Only drawbacks (that I see for caving applications) to them are 1. they're designed to fit loosely and 2. they probably wouldn't stand up to the rigors of movement through the cave... meaning you'd have to take it on/off every time you get by a rope.

I use the padded Goliath and my butt is happier for it. They also have a model with an integrated chest harness that snaps into the seat harness. It works well.

I've seen arborist harnesses...they seem pretty sturdy. I don't know if they are so sturdy to be cave worthy. The ones I have seen were hugely bulky and heavy, even compared to the Goliath. I wouldn't want to have one with me in a cave.

An arborist friend of mine tells me that arborist harnesses, in addition to fitting loosely, do not have low attachment points.

Confirmed by the On Rope 1 website. It states that the arborist harness is not for use with Frog Sytems because it does
not have a low attachment point.

GGG (Gonzo Guano Gear) also makes a very nice padded harness.
Their Custom Seat Harness that has a padded waist and large leg-loops.
It is a cross between a mountaineering harness and a caving harness and is very comfortable.
