Undersuit

Postby menderesa » Dec 2, 2007 12:55 pm

Hello.
I want to buy an under suit and I was thinking about the Meander myotis or petzl clima.
Which one would you recommend for alpine caving. Where could I buy petzl clima over the web?

Inner Mountain Outfitters have them (Petzl Clima) they also stock some of the Meander undersuits and oversuits, I've order from them previously and they are good:

May I suggest you an Italian company who has a wide choice of both undersuits and coveralls? They don't export to the US (yet..??) but may be willing to mail. The owner, Bruno Steimberg, is a oldtimer Italian caver who does extensive testing of its garments with a number of cavers before puttting them on market for sale.

Link to http://www.steinberg.it/cat_ing/indice.htm for the English homepage (where you can download their catalogue too)

and to http://www.steinberg.it/cat_ing/so_tute.htm for the undersuits.

Looks like they put a fair bit of thought into those undersuits that use the different weight polar fleese around the torso, good idea! :kewl: I hadn't seen them like that before but it makes sense.

Caveat Emptor,

Buying an undersuit over t'internet can be full of pitfalls.

You really need to try it on and do all kinds of silly gymnastics to make sure that it fits properly in all directions

I would for preference go for a "warmbac furry":

If you look up Martin Davis in BC he makes custom caving suits and undersuits for any type of caving but Alpine is his realm.VERY reasonable prices and custom fit..

Yes, they did. Bruno is an old timer vertical and alpine caver and got many inputs from cavers used to the many different and cold caves in Italy as well as in some more temperate.

However I agree it would be better to try a suit, especially an undersuit.

PS heard in the past that Martin Davis, up in Tahsis, BC, has sort of discontinued his production: is he back on caving suits or was it an hoax?
