HELMET HEADACHE

DOES ANYBODY KNOW A GOOD WAY TO KEEP YOUR HELMET FROM DIGGING INTO YOUR HEAD. SOME KIND OF PAD OR SOMETHING TO PREVENT THIS. I HAVE A PETZEL DUO AND I THING THE WEIGHT IS TO MUCH

What kind of helmet are you using? Is the padding missing?
A duo should be fairly well balanced, since the headpeice and battery box are separate, so it should not be pulling the front of the helmet down.

Also, maybe the headband is too tight?

It is a joe brown helemt i bought from bob & bob about 15 years ago at the 1992 nss convention in salem indiana. Mabe i need to update to a newer one.

Joe Brown :) those of us who wear em give up some comfort for the baller status of a cult classic... i agree, i get a headache after several hours with my JB on too.

i have a joe brown as well, never wear it though always wear the elios, but my joe brown doesnt seem that uncomfortable. who knows until you wear it for hours though :-)

I have a turtle fur fleece tobogan I wear when my helmet is feeling a bit lumpy (usually after getting a hair cut or on ling trips). Any thin to medium weight tobogan or stocking cap should help. Keeps your head warmer too. When my ears arn't cold I usually feel better all over.

I like mine, but I would like a pad for the chinstrap - it gets a little uncomfortable under my chin especially if I've shaved that day.

I finally parted with mine, and thus my cult classic status. It was just too heavy, and didn't sit as well on my head as the more modern designs.

Yup, go for a new helmet. But try on a selection before deciding, for each has a bit different fit. And if the suspension system still digs into your head, the knit cap is probably the best solution.

You wear a toboggan on your HEAD?? :shock: I thought you're supposed to sit in one and slide on the snow. :laughing:

I've used an HB Olympus helmet for years. Robust, lightweight and comfortable.

I loved my old Ecrin. I think they made different sizes back then. Now I have the adjustable one and it's uncomfortable with it let all the way out. I"m not looking forward to when I need to where a balaclava for warmth with it. IMO thought it was the largest choice available.

hehee I've been prone to wear many a thing on my head depending on the mood. For sliding a perfer a sled opposed to my head, the neck doesn't seem to take all those bumps as well as it used to.

We were talking helmet choices today with new cavers, and this subject came up. One helmet seemed to be the hot topic - the Petzl Elios. (This is the nice lightweight model with the foam inside.)

So all you cavers out there with this helmet - how do you like it? Any discomfort, any headaches? :question:

Not sure if we had a discussion on it earlier (I'll look in a second) but I remember someone saying with the foam inside your head can get a fair bit hotter than with other designs. :helmet:
