36th Annual 2007 Kentucky Speleofest
"Underground Heaven"

Memorial Day Weekend
Friday, May 25th - Monday, May 28th
Held at Lone Star Preserve in Upton, KY
Hosted by The Louisville Grotto

New caves, old favorites, new plans and activities, old and new friends - Speleofest 2007 "Underground Heaven" offers it all! Located in the heart of cave country, Speleofest will be held on heaven above ground on the shady Lone Star Preserve! The preserve is located in Upton, Kentucky-just north of Cave City on I-65.

Lone Star Preserve is a 67-acre caving preserve, which has been purchased and developed by the Louisville Grotto for the purpose of having Speleofest at a permanent central location in caving country. We have expanded our primitive camping areas throughout the shaded preserve. There's plenty of room for groups to have their own campsites in the coolness of green trees. Roads and other access make it possible to park at or near your camp. Fires are allowed off the ground.

Schedule of Events

Friday, May 25th-Registration opens at 9 a.m. Central Time and remains open until Saturday at 7 p.m. Central Time. Lone Star Preserve has plenty of shaded campsites for you to set up your home for the weekend. Cave trips for Saturday will be posted on Friday and trips for Sunday will be posted on Saturday so you can plan your trips to Underground Heaven. This year we will be offering new caves for you to explore. In addition to the new caves we'll also have some favorites from past Speleofests. On vendors row you'll find all kinds of gear to keep you safe and having fun. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time visit our own Lone Star Salt Peter Cave and mingle with old friends and make new ones while enjoying delicious "Awesome Appetizers" served inside the cave! Later, back by popular demand is Karaoke. Music selections will be family oriented.

Saturday, May 26th-Cave trips start at 8 a.m. Central Time. For "newbie's" to caving, an Introduction to Caving trip is planned. We're calling this "Caving 101"! This event will be appropriate for cavers of all ages. For those of you not inclined to visit Underground Heaven, we'll have non-caver family events. Want to wander around the area? Your registration packet will have information about nearby attractions and places of interest, such as Lincoln's Birthplace, the Corvette Museum, Fort Knox, My Old KY Home, and distillery tours at Heaven Hill, Jim Beam and Maker's Mark. After your day out, there will be warm showers available so you can get cleaned up and join us for music and other activities so you'll get a chance to tell about your caving exploits. And don't forget the vendors will be open throughout the event for any additional cave related items you just have to have. Remember registration closes at 7 p.m. Central Time.

Sunday, May 27th-Registration opens at 7 a.m. Central Time and closes at 1 p.m. Central Time. Cave trips start at 8 a.m. Central Time. For those not going underground, consider planning a day trip. There are many places of cultural or historic interest located nearby to visit. There will also be on site activities planned. Maybe you'd like to see Mammoth Cave while you're so close! Don't feel like cooking after a hard day caving? No problem! Join us for our delicious banquet, guest speaker and (what everyone waits for)…DOOR PRIZES!

Monday morning, May 28th-Time to pack up your muddy cave gear and head back to reality while reflecting upon the wonderful time had at Speleofest 2007 - "Underground Heaven" and dreaming ahead to Speleofest 2008! It'll be great!

We plan on going to Speleofest this year. Does anyone collect License Plates? I have two from Alabama that just expired. I would rather give them away then toss them. We will also be at SERA the following weekend.
