php Album?

Postby bigalpha » Feb 22, 2007 11:57 pm

I'm looking for an easy to use, simple and free Image album. php or whatnot. I just need something simple, or else I'll get confused and never get it to work.

I use http://www.photobucket.com . It isnt the best because you cant really add text and stuff like you can on a website, but it is allright.

I use Flickr. Here's my page: http://flickr.com/photos/mccrea/ I haven't taken advantage of all the features, but I like it otherwise. The free accounts have limits on how much you can upload per month, 100mb per month.

If you want to host your own site then you can use something like JAlbum (this one is easy) or Gallery (this one is more complex).

Yeah, I have about 2.5GB of stuff to upload, so it would take a long time to use flickr. Plus, I have videos too.

I am using JAlbum and I love it. It's very easy to use, and now all I have to wait for, is for it all to upload to the server. It's going to take a while.

I had a caving buddy set up a Gallery for me (see sig)... not all that complex there Wolf... but still different strokes.

Gallery and Coppermine are pretty widely used by photographer and are free.

Gallery 2 is pretty easy to setup as long as you have a server with the proper settings and FTP access. If you have shell access it's even easier.

Upload the zip file, unzip it on the server via shell commands, and run the installation program from a browser.

There is a step to upload a text file with a confirmation number to your server via FTP to make sure you have access to the server you are installing to.

You will need to provider your MySQL username and password.

It has lots of upload options for images, such as processing a folder and can interface with various programs, such as picasa.

I've installed it a couple of times.
