what types of boots do you trust or like? i can't find the boots i had,and i need to get a new pair,i don't want to pay a lot,and i don't like those big clunky kickers....Any Ideas??

Lots of options and lots of opinions are out there about boots. The most basic needs are something that will stay on your feet, fit well enough to not hurt your feet, and have good enough traction to minimize slipage. The rest is personal preference, but the better your boots perform, the better caver you will be.

Im a big fan of steel toe bata boots, they are cheap (20$) have great traction (when there new), and are not that uncomfortable.

I would stay away from water-proof. Eventually, they will get water in them, and then they don't drain - of course as Scott said, that is just my personal preference. (and that of those that are around when I take them off!!!)

No web site. Joop is a caver. Mark Joop from TN. He imports the boots and sells them to cavers. His contact info is in the NSS Members Manual. There is a ton of useful info in the previous threads about Joop Boots.

I think that Joop boots are 65 dollars give or take ten.

I have been using these for a while now:

They also have a steel toe version for a few bucks more. Another caver gave me the idea of putting brass grommets in the lace eyes to keep the eyes from ripping out prematurely. A grommet kit is available at most hardware stores and comes with enough grommets for 2 pairs of boots.

Before that I used cheap canvas wader boots from Academy Sports. They really don't have much support though...

Those are Bata Boots (some call them Bata Skis). I used a pair for a couple years. They are good caving boots. That's a good price too.

I put grommets in my Bata Boots as well, and prefer the steel toe variety.
