3 or 4 miles (cain't remember, but surveyed)
of 2 to 20 cfs river cave with 50 some drops rangin from 20 foot nuisance drops to 100 foot plus. As I recall , seems like damn near ever one was in the river an inta a pool, with suck holes that tried ta pull ya down an grind ya up.
Turbines, river canyons 100 feet high by 10 feet wide , 1200 foot swims when the cave was dry. Floods ? Sorta dangerous. Unsettlin...

And all this was below , or hydrologically downstream from town. ..
The cave is the local sewer.
Exit in a river canyon, then walk back.
Ther's only 6 or 10 cavers who know this to be so ....

an then there's the only pull down trip thru all this .... gotta think those 2 really had the ability to do somethin tough... specially since neither one was on the connection trip. Gutsy. An never got wrote up, far's I know.
They just did it for grins.

hardly ever think about this... good thread

Then ya got those real deep caves furthur south what are serious .

Ours here in Colorado cold be Hurricane

Postby jonsdigs » Nov 21, 2006 7:31 am

Ours here in Colorado could be Hurricane.

I was having dinner with the eminent Dr. Louise Hose the evening after her and Mike Frazier made the first through trip in this frigid, wet, granite stream cave. Her hands were raw and bleeding from her rope work, sand having gotten in her rubber gloves. Her having used the euphemism "sporting" to describe challenging cave in the past I jokingly asked her if she would describe Hurricane as "sporting." "No," she replied, "It's just grim."

Absolutely wrong. Here is a site that lists the episodes in the series:

http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/12615

According to this source the Mexico episode was filmed in Chiapas. Also the correct title of the series is "The Realm of Darkness".

I don't know anything about this, other than that I click on the above link then looked at the Mexico episode. It says that it was directed by Sid Perou. Maybe I am misunderstanding what it was that you were saying.

Anyways, I'm :off topic: , I'd better stop.

Hardest caves in Nevada

Pinnacle- very technical/most rescues and mostly crawls through swiss cheese passage.

Baker creek system- Alpine system, tight crawls, glacial runoff partially/completely submerging the system

Hardest cave in Maryland? not toff it would be Twiggs cave... small entrance reports of bad air and at lest tow rescues that i know of.. wet, muddy, and if you have ever caved in one of Maryland's few caves then you would know how bad they suck!!!! all fisher passages and no real rewards.

Hey, don't be running down our beloved Old Line State. Crabtree is a great trip, with both challenges and rewards. And then there's . . . well, not much else, but even an hour in Dam #4 is better than 18 holes of golf. Thirty-six, even.

Dwight, Maryland is a fine place to live but there is much better places to go underground. Also I'm not hatin on our caves, most would not want to spend the time on them and if they did they would realize that they are pretty technical. I'm just saying there is more rewarding places to cave. That's all :tonguecheek:

Toughest cave in NM? Lechuguilla.
Toughest cave in NM I've been in? Scrooge, since it was flooded/mudded in since I was last there on the survey. Much digging may be needed.
Take nothing but pictures

In Tennessee high on the list is Luminary Cave. I think a trip to the bottom of 660 foot deep Dorton Knob Smoke Hole through the historic entrance and back out is worse. I would rank that as the hardest deep wet multi drop trip in Tennessee.

Hi

Ughhh....for florida....the VERY back of warrens cave (owned by the NSS!) is a pretty rough trip.....and if you have ever been to the pit....considered the "old" back of the cave....you've only gone about half way hardness wise...

Warrens is a very comfortable cave....as long as you arent moving....
