FYI, Gourdneck no longer has ladders at the entrance, so bring your vertical gear.

I read about that. I've never been to Gourdneck so I wouldnt know, but what was the reason for removing them? I've always wanted to go there too.

On a lighter note, we're supposed to have some GREAT weather this weekend!

How long of a drive do you guys think it is from the TAG site to Camps Gulf?

I'd say it's about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Camps Gulf involves a lot of breakdown climbing as well, so not really an "easier" cave if that is still what you're looking for, at least if you want to see most of the cave.

btw, my wifes condition has improved a lot.. she still cant do a belly crawl, and just plain crawling is a little difficult. Walking, stooping and moderate climbing is ok. Man, if the cave in was 2 weeks from now we could do anything. Its so frustrating!!

I believe there was a desire to remove "attractive nuisances" from the cave. The ladders were deemed unnecessary and potentially dangerous and so removed.

Gourdneck has seen a bit of vandalism in the last little bit, so hopefully the absence of the ladders will deter all but the more determined vandals :-).

Also, the rope at the back of the second level was removed, so if you want to see the third level, prepare for some really exposed traversing. The hangers and biners that were there were death traps and needed to go.

The Cave-In was great! Good caving and good friends. I always meet new friends at the Cave-In and this year was no exception. Thank you DCG and all the volunteers for your hard work and dedication. Sunday morning always comes much too soon. I can't wait for next year. I'll have some more of that jalapeno wine for anyone wanting a little extra kick with their evening beverages!

Ahh yes the cave in was great :-) Made new friends and got to cave with them. And yes even heard the voice of Walter Cronkite. What a great time indeed! :-)

Photo and Art Salon results

Postby kvart » Oct 10, 2006 8:00 am

Photo Salon
1st place Nancy Rodgers & Jerry Wallace tied - Cave Spring Cave by Nancy & Girl in water in Green shirt by Jerry.
2nd place - Sabrina Simon - Cave Cricket

Art Salon
Sabrina Simon - watercolor of Neversink

I am kinda bummed about the Salons.......first, it was my idea to have these salons, and I forgot to bring my art work to enter into the art salon........and, it was my idea to have it a "Caver's Choice" salon...and, yup, you guessed it, I FORGOT TO VOTE!

FRY MAH HIDE!

Just kidding about the bummed part. Actually, I am rather pleased with the turnout and results. We were not overwhelmed with maps and photos, but we had enough for starters. I just want to publicly thank Brent Aulenbach for coordinating the Map Salon and Mary Hebblewhite for coordinating the Photo and Art Salons....KUDOS guys!

But, my biggest kick I got was the voting results. When people found out about the winners, they were surprised. It definately showed the difference between being judged by a panel of experts as opposed to being judged by the end user......YOU!

Many, many thanks to ALL who participated in the Map, Photo, and Art Salons, both in your entry and your vote. I think maybe you can look for this again next year.

Map Salon results to be posted soon.

Thanks again everyone!

I did not hear you utter the words FRY MAH HIDE one single time during the cave in and I am quite disappointed!

Also sorry I didnt get to meet you Realms! So many people, so much to do and so little time!
