Small world - Jimmy Harrison was the first person I ever met who was a caver. He used to try to get me to try caving in the mid 80's - I thought he was crazy. He did get me to try rappelling at DeSoto State Park in Alabama. I didn't go underground until the 1994.

BTW, Phil since I've met other cavers who caved with him I now know he is/was crazy. Last I heard from him (about a year ago) he was living in LA (Lower Alabama).

sorry for the digression

I got off track from talking about the TAG Fall Cave-In.

Don't forget the "cavers entertaining cavers" event Friday evening. It should be very interesting. It would be nice if people want to get together with the DB folks together planned to meet in the vicinity of the entertainment.

See y'all at the CAVE-IN - TAG is a region, not an event.

T.S. Tammy

Postby Scott Shaw » Oct 5, 2005 8:04 am

Well it wouldn't be TAG without a tropical weather event. Looking at the track of Tropical Storm Tammy puts it in line to hit the TAG site Saturday. Bummer. Looks like a mudfest this weekend.

See it's current position and how large the rain area is here: http://www.goes.noaa.gov/ECIR4.html

Three-day prediciton here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Fantastic Pit

Postby pacaver » Oct 5, 2005 4:23 pm

Yep, I was watching the weather forecast and it seemed to get worse as the week went on. Does anyone know how quickly Fantastic Pit's waterfall increases in flow with rain? Do you think this upcoming rain will make doing the drop a suicide experience or does it take significant sustained rain to have an effect on the waterfall?

See you at the cave-in, rain or shine! :D

The rest of my grotto are only coming on day passes. However, I have never been to a TAG cave-in before and really want to see the bonfire. Wonder if there will still be any camping space left if I come up and register early saturday morning?

TAG Recap

Postby CaverScott » Oct 9, 2005 2:56 pm

There was plenty of camping off of "Borehole Way." (This was a new area from Last year)

Wendy, It was great to meet you!

Man, after the first two days of fog and rain I was about to call it quits when Julie told me she was bringing the sun with her on Saturday. :D

Saturday was awesome! Great Band! Great Time!

Kudos once again to the DCG and all the volunteers.

Hey, It was great to meet you too!!! And thanks for the wine.

Despite fending off a wicked cold and sore throat, I had a great time during the cave-in. Even the mud didn't damper my sprits. I am home now, no voice left me in, but home safe and sound.
