Who knows, though. If the owners filed bankruptcy, I assume the land will be sold one way or another soon. Maybe the SCCI or the land trust will still end up getting some of it.

Rumor has it that they filed bankruptcy to prevent the public sale and that they could have a potential new buyer that will pay more for it than what it was auctioned for... But who knows of course these are just web rumors... I would hope that the Land Trust and the SCCi could both obtain this land in the future if it is offered again.

What Kelly said.
A new developer can now buy the whole tract for cheap and try to turn a profit again. Odds are they will bankrupt themselves, then some one else buys the tract to make it profitable. Eventually the land becomes so cheap that some one could buy it for dirt cheap and actually turn a profit.

On the Lula Lake Land Trust facebook page, I asked if they were going to be working with the SCCi about access to the caves on the land they acquired.

Here is what they said:

"The Georgia Land Trust has already begun that process, especially in honor of Chuck Henson, a great soul & partner on this epic project."

44 million dollars... $44,000,000. :yikes: Thanks a lot of dough they made off with.
We're lucky they didn't dynamite the whole area.

New guy here, although I've been caving for years - after a long break (family, work, life, you know). Had a co-worker last year drag me back into it. As a Covenant College student in the late 80's we'd go to JC fairly often. I was saddened when I learned it was closed. I was trying to recall the last trip, I think it was in 1991? All we had was a set of TAG maps and never made it to any of the other caves in the area. I'm excited to be heading back. Sunday three of us are heading up there from Atlanta. A big THANK YOU to the SCCI, all supporters, the Ga-Al Land Trust, and tons of others I can't even begin to name.
