We're all en route to Cave Capers in Indiana. But we're alive and posting.

From what I hear, everyone is on Facebook. I'm not, but I'm an oddball. I don't care to hear everyone's personal business. Nor will I tell you mine.

Yes, a lot of people use Facebook for caving related discussion. In the past week, the NSS Facebook group has had an average of 4 posts per day (29 posts in total) and the Cavers of Facebook group has had an average of 12 posts per day (83 posts in total). Compared to Cave Chat which has had a grand total of 3 topics created in the past week.

I wasn't aware that this site ever passed the Turing test.

I look on this site and Facebook. But as previously mentioned, drama comes along with Facebook. Fortunately, the cave pages on Facebook do not have much drama.

 I check this site regularly as there's some good posts here. Facebook is great after you delete all your friends lol. That's what I did a couple of years ago after joining and not liking the 'friends' part. I may be the only person in the world on FB with no friends! :big grin: I'm a member of several caving groups and others that interest me. Nobody's breakfast or whiny political/religious crap on my feed! Just caving, hiking and guitars lol. Cavechat is cool and I will continue to visit and occasionally post.

I get pretty sad seeing how little activity is here on the forums as im sure some of you have seen my posts in the mini-chat but seeing as how WNS has dampened caving in North America and the apparent migration of many of the conversations to Facebook I understand how this forum has fallen on hard times.

We all need to take every opportunity to promote Cavechat!

For example, I will send links to some topics to caver list-servs and put them on Fbook, hoping to drive traffic here to read a discussion. We can mention Cchat at grotto meetings, and put something--notice or short article on recent topics-- in grotto newsletters. How about a Cchat button link on grotto websites?

This forum of course offers so much more than the quick show-and-tell of Fbook. And cavers likely can learn more here than at grotto meetings and from caver friends.

Also as some have pointed out some people avoid Facebook like the plague and or don't attach the same professionalism to a facebook group as they would something like this.
