Does such a light exist?

Postby rlboyce » Oct 10, 2014 5:23 pm

I'm looking for a new caving headlamp. I'd like the light to meet the following criteria:

≤$200
Two XM-L2 LEDs
Holds one or more 18650 batteries
IPX-6 or IPX-8

Has anyone seen a light like this floating around on the internet? Thanks!

Get two Zebralights (H600 for spot, H602 for flood). Each uses a single 18650 and runs just under $100. Several people in my grotto use this setup and are really happy with it.

What you suggest is basically my current setup. I usually use one light at a time, not simultaneously. I was hoping to find a light that had two LEDs integrated into one unit so that one switch controlled both. Kind of like Sten maybe. Perhaps my current setup is the best option available. Thanks.

What do you think of the stoots evo max

Great little lamp just above your price range (175euro = 220 $)

That's pretty close to what I was looking for. I am not a big fan of the LED type though. Thanks for the link!

 What bothers you about LED headlamps? Long battery life, incredible brightness, durability

Brian, I think you may have mistaken my meaning. I love LED technology and I can barely remember what it is like to cave with anything other than an LED headlamp.

When I said I am not a big fan of the LED type, I was referring to the type of LEDs inside the Evo Max. The Evo Max uses Cree XT-E emitters, but I much prefer the Cree XM-L2 emitters.

OK, I figured you did not really mean to say all LED's

Well.. the Fenix HL55 could be the thing that you're looking for, but it has only one LED.
On the other hand... that one LED is lighting with 450lm, which is a LOT, is waterproof to an IP68, runs on one 18650 battery and having it bumped on 3-4 caves i've already went in with it - it works like magic.

Wow, I am very impressed by this light. It's almost exactly how I would design it. Out of my budget range, but definitely worth knowing about it. Thanks.

I'm pretty happy with this one: El Speleo Gnoma 1200
Image
Not quite everything you wanted, but close. It has 3 Nichia 219 @4500k, runs on 3xAA or 1x18650 or 1x26650 (all with good run times), is rated IP67 and was pretty cheap at 180€ including the shipping (worked out to $204 when I bought mine).
