I hope The NSS can afford that. I know the cost of printing a newsletter similar to what we are accustomed to can be more than some think, not to mention ever increasing cost of postage. Full color would be nice no doubt but I do not want to see the society struggle financially to do it. What we have been getting lately is fine with me.

I understand from Editor Dave Bunnell that due to advances in technology and a change in printers, full color will cost less than the current B&W-with-some-color-insert version. :kewl:

Cheryl,

Thanks for cutting the "the Newsletter is going color and my dues are going up" conversation off at the pass. As the newsletter is one of the regularly tangible benefits of membership, I look forward to more color pictures!

Cheryl, yes, thanks for passing on that info. I'd been kind of figuring that should be mentioned anywhere this was announced so this one took me by surprise. By conservative estimates this switch to full color printing will actually cost us 10,000 dollars less a year in printing costs, about a 15% reduction. I'm hoping the new look might help us to both maintain and attract members as that is the real issue in our budget crisis.

Part of the savings is printing at a big operation instead of the current small one, with bigger presses to print more pages and more colors at once. And the new printer is a caver so is not only giving us a good deal but had a personal stake in giving us a good product.

Thank you for all your hard work Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing this months issue and future ones in all color... Do you think this same printer can do the Members Manual for us at a better cost too?

Kelly,

They might be able to give us a better cost. If you want to get a bid from them let me know and I'll send you their contact info. Since the MM is mostly black and white, the cost savings might not be as great since you don't have the issue of having to run the pages through the press once versus twice to consider that is part of our savings now.

Not sure who printed it before, but Terry Raines, our outgoing NSS printer, is keen to take on some black and white jobs where he can be more competitive so you should get a bid from him too.

I just got my full color NSS News October 2013 edition in the mail today. It looks awesome and has some stunning photos. I haven't read it yet, but probably by tomorrow or the next day, I will have read it cover to cover. Great job Dave!

I am a printer by trade, and know that print buyers are getting more bang for the buck. I am looking forward to more color in the NSS News, as I see our customers in my trade are doing as well.
