Polyduck vs Cordura

Postby ArCaver » Sep 14, 2013 6:42 am

Does anyone know if there is any practical difference in polyduck and cordura when used for caving equipment, assuming the same denier? Is one more abrasion resistant than the other? How about resistance to heat, such as from a clothes dryer?

Cordura is a brand name and is usually, but not always, made with nylon. Polyduck is made with polyester. The performance difference will depend on the quality of the materials and construction techniques. Too many variables to give a definitive answer. Don't put either one in the dryer. They could shrink or melt. And, many fabrics have a coating on one side or both that could peel off. Just air dry them.

Thanks. I thought the dryer would be a bad idea.

Most home dryers do not damage cordura, polyester fleece, polyester underwear, etc. I've used mine to dry all of these items for 20+ years with adverse effects.
