Postby Cheryl Jones » Sep 1, 2011 10:13 am

Dear Colleagues, Dear Caving Friends,

This is a first e-mail from Organizing Committee of the 16th International Congress of Speleology (16ICS). As you already know, the Congress will be organized from 21st to 28th of July 2013 in Brno, Czech Republic.

The Organizing Committee (OC) work hard to prepare 16ICS as a friendly World´s Cavers Community meeting, with fruitful scientific program, fantastic excursions and attractive accompanying program. OC encourage UIS Commissions again, to send Us their requests and suggestions for 16ICS and also welcome all your comments.

You can find a first circular and more information on 16ICS official website http://www.speleo2013.com.

Since now, You also will be regularly informed about all important upgrades in Congress preparation via e-mail. We very appreciate your recommendation for your colleagues and friends, they want to be informed via e-mail too. If you do not wish to be informed, please, let us know, your e-mail will be removed from a list.

Welcome to our journey to the next International Congress of Speleology!

Zdenek Motycka
Chairman 16th ICS Organizing Committee
(Please circulate freely among the caver community)

I remember seeing this posted last year. I SOOOO would love to go.

I would be interested to hear from anyone planning to attend the ICS on their thoughts regarding the pricing of "participation fees"

http://www.speleo2013.com/pdf/pricelist.pdf

This event went from something that I my family and I were very excited to attend to something that is no longer fun and has become cost prohibitive. The prices that are being charged for various things seem WAAAY out of line compared to any caving event I have attended in the last 25yrs. The icing on the cake for me was being told today that any of my family members wishing to attend day field trips (even non-caving ones) must pay for the full congress registration in addition to the field trip price.

thoughts?

Aaron

I'm a UK caver and I also was planning on attending until I saw the price list.

I (eventually) would like to attend an ICS. What were the costs in the past? If the Google exchange rate is correct, 5,000 Czech Koruna looks to be just over $250...

The cost seemed high looking at the numbers, a week of pre convention caving(Monravian Karst), registration and a week of post convention caving(Ukraine), plus Wednesday excursion etc. came to 23,000 yikes! however as was mentioned that's in Czech currency which converted to around $1100 USD, I consider this a bargain and am looking forward to the trip immensely. Course airfare isn't cheap either and I'm glad I already bought my tickets as it seems to be going up.

I was referred to this webpage (curiously updated just yesterday). Specifically, I was told that bullet 2 made it clear that everyone attending excursions need to be registered for the Congress... Uh, right

Returned from ICS a couple of Days ago, had a wonderful time. It will take me several days (at least) to sort through all
the pictures I took as well as the ones I took in Budapest, Prague and Helsinki. In the
meanwhile though I noticed an interesting thing while reviewing pics on
my camera, I'd taken so many it almost played like a time lapse video, so last night I dumped them into movie maker and here you go-
