Caver from Moscow, Mother of Russia greetings :)

Postby Lydia » Oct 4, 2012 5:19 am

Hi everyone,

My name’s Lydia Kondratyeva, I’m 23. For the last few years I go caving with my friends from Moscow cave club Sokolniki-RUDN. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and work as a school teacher. I live and work in Moscow, Russia. We don’t have vertical caves here in Moscow region, only some stone-pits and small caves of natural origin are accessible. This picture is taken in one of local stone-pits (Silikaty):

That’s why we go outside Moscow on our big cave trips. At the present time our club has a couple of expeditions a year. The main one is taking place in July-August on the Arabika Massif, Abkhazia. That's me on the right (Arabika, entrance to the Ilyukhinskaya cave in the background):

Other trips are planned with reference to the members’ vacation and state holidays in winter, spring and autumn.

I would love to go to the US caves someday. I’ve been to the US as a student for more than 3 months and really enjoyed the people and the nature of your country. You are welcome to ask any questions on how things are organized here in our cave clubs, about Russian speleo expeditions, training and competitions. Let’s share our valuable experience

Welcome to Cave Chat! :waving:

Thanks for posting your pictures. They look like a ton of fun! Well, all except the cave diving which looks *really* cold! :yikes:

That's Single Rope Technique competition, we have a lot of them during a year; it is a contest between the best sportsmen, held to see who is the best caver (fastest, smartest, etc).

Haha guess I shouldnt of sounded like I didnt know what SRT stands for. I was wondering what these comps were like etc and names of comps that people can enter. Nothing like that here in Australia.
