DistoX Board Production ??

Postby kdxn » Jan 12, 2012 5:44 pm

There is an ongoing development to make a DistoX2 for the Disto DXT with prototypes in USA and Switzerland. Hopefully the calibration drift will be resolved.

In the meantime, I have found sufficient components to do a production run of 100 original DistoX board for the Disto A3.

All being well, the selling price would be about £160 each (UK Pound Sterling). Note this does not include an A3.

Some serious money required to kick off this production run, so before I empty my savings account, could you post your interest in the original DistoX board below ? It is not a commitment.

I'm interested, do you have a source for the A3? I cant seem to find any for sale on the interwebs, all of the sites say it's out of production and refer to the new models.

Not sure, does the bluetooth work on this model? I already have a DXT so I guess it depends on what goes on with the version 2 before I fully commit to getting one with an A3. A3's are also pretty difficult to find these days. Ebay is the only place that I have been able to locate one recently. What is your current setup like? How did you get it to work out? Do you have any prototype boards that you've made and do you have a fully functional one that works like the old DistoX?

Beat, the developer of the original DistoX board has provided the Gerber (electronic build files) and also the hex programming files required for the Bluetooth and the PIC. The proposed production would be the same DistoX board as before.

DistoX production stopped because some components became obsolete. I have found limited stock of these obsolete components which would allow a new production batch.

Disto A3's appear on ebay. I am also trying to source some from some corporate users who are upgrading their equipment.

I'm in desperate need of a DistoX or DistoX2, as far as I know it doesn't really matter which. I will buy the first one I can get my hands on. Please count me in for one of the 100 original DistoXs.

We're digging a 3D maze of tunnels in soft sandstone. The tunnels wind up and down and all around. When we break through and complete a loop, we need to be really close, and I'm concerned the error with the Suunto might be too much.

Thanks!!!

I have bitten the bullet and bought the obsolete parts and placed orders for the PCB's, assembly etc.

This will be (probably) the last production run of the original DistoX board for the Disto A3.

Current estimate for shipping is March/April.

Price yet to be finalised because there may be hiccups in production.

When I have the boards, I will let you know how to get one and how much.

Keep us updated on your progress!! I would like a DistoX either way. I already have a dxt though so that's my only hold back. I may have to bite the bullet as well...

Instead of Disto A3 you may use (from Beat's page): "Stabila LE 50 An alternative to the A3. Contains the same internal hardware as the A3 and is compatible with the DistoX kit. However, the case is somewhat smaller and there is hardly sufficient space to route the wires."

I did it and it works.

I now have all the components to build the DistoX boards, it took a while for some to be delivered from abroad.
Two DistoX boards will be built by the electronics manufacturer next week to test their quality.

For those looking for Disto A3's or Stabila Le50 for the upgrade.
There are several Disto A3 for sale this week.

7 (Seven) Disto A3 for sale on www.ebay.co.uk
1 Disto A3 for sale on www.ebay.com
1 Disto A3 for sale on www.ebay.de

Good luck !

I tested yesterday the DistoX calibration with three sets of ZnCl batteries:

Standard test: four measurements with 90° rotation, one backside, no recalibration among measurements with different sets of batteries.

1. set:

9,7
9,7
9,8
9,7
189,3

2. set:

9,4
9,8
9,7
8,9
189,3

3. set:

9,7
9,7
9,3
9,0
189,1

It was quite cold, so my hands were not rock stabile :)

I think the problem is solved.

Hi Martin,

Good to know the results.
Just need to carry enough batteries !
What battery brands can you recommend ?

Two DistoX boards will be with me for testing either this week or next week before switching on the production of the other 98.

The list for boards is almost full.

I will keep you all updated.

Thanks,

Kevin

I used these: http://www.bateria.cz/products/primary- ... r-r03.html

But I think one may use any ZnCl primary cell which are not magnetically. From supermarkets, for example.
