Santa on rope - Petzl safety warning

Postby NZcaver » Dec 12, 2011 4:32 pm

In response to this incident:

Petzl has just released a new safety notice:

There is an alternative solution to this problem. Instead of allowing Santa to rappel, we have a second person simply lower him with a fixed belay device. This avoids beard complications and allows Santa to concentrate on important things like waving and throwing candy at children.

Stay safe on rope this holiday season! :santa: :waving:

Is there a larger version of this image? The text is too small to read in some places.

Yeah I remember hearing about this on The Bob and Tom Show a few mornings ago.

Now that we know he got out okay, I'd like to take a moment to laugh at the beard coming off. The kids didn't sound too thrilled to start with, but I was waiting for the sudden gasping at the revealing of a fraudulent Santa and the subsequent crying of children.

From Petzl's website:

take the time to read the small print, it's important...

I feel for the guy, I've had my hair caught in a rack in a practice session where helmets didn't seem necessary... I was wrong. Even though it hurt like hell, I kept my wits and remained calm while I put my ascenders with foot strap on the rope and got myself loose.
Glad I learned this lessons in a controlled environment.

Lucky for Santa it wasn't his real hair.

I got a bit of my beard stuck in a device once. If it's not too much, just keep going. It won't bleed....much.

And all these years I was told that santa could "magic" himself down the chimney!!! Lying bunch of *%$%#$....
All the time he was using a Petzel Stop.

The real magic is that, after rappelling down every home chimney in the world squeezing the Stop's brake handle, Santa's hand never cramps up too much to set out presents.
