Binkley Update

Postby SinkholePlain » Nov 7, 2011 3:36 pm

Mop up survey including a nice upper level loop in the Rock Island Rd area of Binkley this past weekend brought the surveyed length up to 26.863 miles. It gave me a chance to revisit areas I hadn't seen since 1968 right after the initial discovery of the area. Return trip above Grand Falls via the infamous "Ripper Water Crawl" is scheduled for the coming weekend. There are several going leads including a high narrow canyon beyond the climb up out of the Ripper.

Not sure if anyone else has posted this but last weekend Indiana's Binkleys Cave just passed New Mexico's Carlsbad Caverns on the US Long Cave List. They only need a few hundred more feet to pass Tennessee's Cumberland Caverns. These miles are coming the hard way with long wetsuit trips being the norm for survey. Hats off to Dave Everton and his crew for all their efforts the last few years almost every weekend. When the likely connection with Blowing Hole happens this will add several miles. This cave may be the longest sinkhole plain cave in The USA.
It only takes one person to surrender a dog to a kill shelter ,but it takes many to rescue it.

This past weekend Indiana's Binkleys Cave passed Tennessee's Cumberland Caverns for # 15 on the US Long Cave List. When the likely connection is made to nearby Blowing Hole Cave it will jump several miles and pass a few more. Hats off to Dave Everton and his crew for going down almost every weekend surveying in wetsuits to make this happen.
