Hi Wes,
Your best bet to hook up with other cavers your age is to come to the local grotto meeting at Jack Quinn's on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm. The next meeting is our annual Christmas party so we WILL NOT be at Jack Quinn's. We will be inside Cave of the Winds having a pot luck dinner before we go cave exploring for the evening. It all starts at 6:00pm and you and your friends are more than welcome to join us. Not sure how old ya'll are...... but no worries. The grotto supplies all the liquid beverages (no alcohol allowed at the cave owners request) and there is always more food than we can eat.....so bring food if you want but be sure to bring your cave gear and appitite.....and a change of clothes so you don't get the tourist portion of the cave dirty upon your exit from a really fun night. PM me if you want more details.
If you want to learn the ropes .....so to speak.......I'd suggest giving Todd Warren a call. He is a caver and long time grotto member. He is part owner in a company that teaches outdoor education such as you desire. His companies name is Alpine Quest and I can PM you his phone number. He is the one who offers free vertical lessons a couple times a year for grotto members.
I think you guys would like our grotto. We mainly cave in Williams Canyon and have trips going most weekends.
http://www.wcp.coloradocaves.org/ We have a lot of younger people in our club that work at Cave of the Winds. We also have old farts like me and about every other age group in between. There isn't a lot of limestone or caves in the state. Most of those that are good are on USFS land and closed to caving with threats of stiff fines and jail time. Some of the best and most accessible caving in the state is right in your back yard on private property. Come join our club and join the fun. At least join us for the Christmas party.
