Mammut X-shot?

Hi all - I recently read a review on backpacker.com of this (new?) light, and I'm wondering if anyone has any info or (ideally) has used this light underground:

Cost is $89.95. Runs on 3 AA batteries.

"For dark-of-night pursuits, the X-Shot outperformed every other light we tested. After an alpine start on Colorado’s 14,259-foot Longs Peak, one tester said, “My partners could turn off their lamps and hike in my beam, and it wasn’t even on high.” Three LEDs provide up to 200 lumens of shadow-free, white light that blasts farther than a football field (on high), and three AA batteries power the high beam for 12 hours (the longest in this test).
Likes: It’s easy to operate with gloves on, and a snap-on lantern casing (sold separately, $12, 1.7 oz.) diffuses ambient light.
Dislikes: The strap is difficult to adjust, and stability is below average due to a large rear battery pack and thin strap. "

The Mammut website claims 15hr on "high" mode (110 meter beam), substantially better than my (new-ish) Princeton Tex Apex, which also claims up to 200 lumens but can't sustain that for the 12 hours the review claimed the X-shot could.

Anyway, does anyone know anything about this light? Have you used it? Would you recommend it? Let me know!

Looks like a great little light. But for that price, you can do better... we're talking 500+ lumens.

I have the Mammut x-zoom and the Mammut lucidio. They are both great lights and I'm currently using the x zoom in cave until I get a spark. I'm new to this x shot but....

Both Mammut lights I own are EXTREMELY efficient, also they have very good optics. I don't think either of them are good for caving though. The x zoom has held up so far but I know eventually it will break.

For $89 I'd go with the spark.

Ah yes, I followed the spark vs. fenix hp-11 thread a few months back. I prefer all my lights to run on AAs, but the spark does sound pretty exciting. Thanks for the input!

I agree it would be nice to have everything run on the same battery. I really like the sPark and will Probly buy the sd model, was holing they'd drop a Aa version but I don't think so. Just not enough juice from one Aa.

My mammuts run FOREVER on a set of Aa.
