2011 National Cave and Karst Management Symposium

Postby Cheryl Jones » Jun 15, 2011 6:56 pm

Dear Friends of Caves and Karst,

The 2011 National Cave and Karst Management Symposium (NCKMS) committee would like to invite you to attend and present at the 2011 NCKMS in beautiful Midway, Utah, October 3-7. Based on your current work in cave and karst studies and management, we would love to have you be a part of this year’s Symposium.

This event is an important forum for promoting, advancing, and sharing concepts in effective management of cave and karst resources and the associated life found there. Elite cave managers and researchers from all over the world will be gathering at this event to discuss new techniques, develop solutions, face and address issues, and build relationships that improve our ability to protect and conserve caves, cave ecosystems, water resources and karst lands.

While the theme of the event is “Karst Elevated” to highlight the alpine karst surrounding the symposiums location, any range of cave and karst related topics will be presented and discussed. This is a great opportunity to present your cave and karst work and be a part of this year’s Symposium. We are hoping that the Symposium will help to elevate all types of karst in the minds of land managers, planners, and developers.

This year’s symposium will be held at the Zermatt Resort in Midway, Utah. Midway is a small mountain town near Salt Lake City. The mountain atmosphere will provide a retreat away from the usual urban setting yet still allow for plenty of learning, networking, culture and fun. Check out the website http://www.nckms.org/2011 for more information and to register for what will be an unforgettable NCKMS!

Sincerely,

Cami McKinney
2011 National Cave & Karst Management Symposium
Chair
(Please circulate this announcement widely......among cavers, private cave managers, those responsible for managing caves on public lands, show cave owners, and speleologists.)

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to send a warning that abstracts for the 2011 National Cave &
Karst Management Symposium is just a few days away on Monday, August 15.
There are only a few days left to get yours written and submitted.
Abstracts are a maximum of 250 words and must include authors names, title
of paper, and a brief biological sketch of the primary author. Don't
worry, we won't be asking for the whole paper now! Submit them to the
sessions chair, Jon Jasper at jon@jonjasper.com or contact him if you wish
to make other arrangements.

While I know that many of you are waiting for next fiscal year to start,
the Dow to level off, or you just love to wait until the last minute, the
clock is ticking now. The Bat Conservation International's Bat Cave
Assessment and Management Workshop, Project Underground, and the Logan
Canyon Geology field trip are filling up fast and there are only a few
seats left. Use a bit of end of year money, register now, and get your
spot reserved!

Lastly, our block of rooms will be released soon! Don't miss your chance
to stay at the Zermatt with the unbelievable room rates they are giving us.
When they are gone, they're gone! There is also camping available at
nearby Wasatch Mountain State Park, with a discounted rate- but again,
space is limited!

Find info on abstract submissions, field trip and workshop descriptions,
location information and registration at www.nckms.org/2011

Please share this with anyone that may be interested. Thanks everyone for
all your help and support.

See you all in Midway!
