LSD cells (Eneloops or Duraloops) and a independant channel smart charger is the best combination.

With all that in mind I understood todays rechargeable batteries are not your grandpa's rechargeables. The good ones last as long or longer than alkalines and make your light brighter. I suspect the tech. will get even better.
