2011 Spring VAR at Durbin, WV

Postby gsci75 » Mar 8, 2011 8:27 pm

Just a reminder that Front Royal Grotto is hosting the 2011 Spring VAR, April 29-May 1 at the East Fork Campground in Durbin, WV, a delightful little community in northern Pocahontas County. A variety of led and self-led cave trips are planned. A vertical workshop, bonfire, and Saturday evening talk covering the resurvey of Cass Cave are also scheduled for the weekend. IMO and Wunderwear will be present to meet your caving needs. So while you are thinking about it, go to the Front Royal Grotto website for more detailed information and register for a fun filled weekend!

There will also be a vertical workshop sponsored by the Eastern Region of the NCRC
The workshop is intended to help cavers fine-tune their existing climbing system, work on ascending techniques and practice change-overs.
If you don't know how to do a change-over, you can learn here. The vertical workshop will begin on Friday and go until Sunday.
Come by anytime and play on rope.

Well that and I think Aaron usually goes to that so I can probably just hop a ride with him :woohoo:

I have to be in D.C. on April 28 (Thurs) for business and so I'm planning my return flight for Sunday so I can attend VAR :kewl:

I expect to be in the area Thursday night and would love to meet up with someone to cave on Friday. I think registration opens at noon, but if anyone is interested in doing some caving that day then send me a PM. I'd especially be interested in surveying or something vertical. I've done a little caving in the area, but it's been about 15 years so I don't have any contacts. I can return the favor if you plan to come to Colorado this summer.

Had fun at VAR!

Excellent trip to Simmons-Mingo.

Too bad it got so cold on Friday night...it made most of the folks from my grotto leave on Saturday evening.
