A new find in West Virginia that's going to be closed

Postby Ernie Coffman » Mar 26, 2010 11:59 am

A beautiful find in West Virginia, but right in the middle of a road cut, so they're going to seal it up. Several cavers--only ONE NSS caver, sad to say--were allowed in this beautiful cave. :woohoo: Here's the link - http://www.dailymail.com/News/201003250 ... uild=cache -view the thirty or more beautiful pictures in this small cave of only 400'. That is, that they've found so far.

WOW! The Speleothems are just amazing! This is just sad. Is there nothing that can be done to keep them from closing the cave?

I don't think I understand this statement.

Actually I think all the cavers that went into the cave that day belong to the NSS.

Yes, all 6 of us are NSS members...
I consider it an honor that I got into this cave!
And the only female (which usually happens to me) to be in it too...

Nope. I left it to the professional up there in post # 9.

I was the "chief flashbulb technician" in most of her pictures. She was smart to keep my ugly mug out of the frames!

Tn's Cedar Ridge Crystal cave was discovered in a similar manner in a road cut. Shame it can't be left open. It could have possibly been the only factual non bate cave in existence, just think the NSS could have convention there and everyone could take turns going in a real cave for a change.(sarcasm of course)

Yep, my apologies to all six cavers. I jumped to conclusion before checking out my other source. Sorry about that!

Believe me, I tried everything I could to get the cave from being sealed. I even had 3 of the WVDOT engineer/geologists working with me but alas the powers that be want it closed. A local landowner (that the state happened to take his land & split his land in 2) put pressure on the state to close the cave to avoid trespassers. :cave softly: :cave softly:
