Nice, detailed article. Talk about a hostile environment.

The mapping crew crawled into every corner and wedged themselves through tiny openings wearing PVC suits. They emerged “looking and smelling like about 10 people had thrown up on them,” recalls a fellow caver.

And worms that live on hydrogen sulfide...
Letting the days go by / water flowing underground
Into the blue again / in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones / there is water underground.

Come to the 2011 NSS Convention and find out for yourselves. Don't tell anybody. :shhh: but there are a couple of Hot Spring caves within walking distance of the campground. :shhh: :shhh: :shhh: I'll even deliver the GPS locations to your tent for your hiking and soaking pleasure. :kewl:
