An interesting story on the infamous Bower Cave in California. Folks once stopped here before venturing on up into the mountains of Yosemite, is historically put together with pictures, as well as a fantastic historical account of this interesting cave. Gather this story up before it becomes history because of cyberspace eliminations. :cavingrocks:

It seems that a west coast caver had previously written most of this article, so guess this is a lot of plagerized stuff, which shouldn't happen. The pictures might be the authors, but not most of the story, sad to report. :yikes:

It is a fascinating cavern/grotto - wonderful to think of all the folks dancing down there on a wooden dance floor, while the band played on the bandstand, high above. Don Burnham wrote a very cool song about it, which I put to video:

Passes to the entrance of the cave are available for free from the National Forest Service just out of Groveland, but entry to the cave itself is super restricted.

Is this cave accessible at all? By permit?

As far as I can tell the diving exploration ended decades ago.
