Lighting the way (with a watch)

Postby Wayne Harrison » Sep 9, 2007 9:53 am

One of the last things a caver wants to hear are these words: “Errr...guys...our flashlight batteries are running low.”

<img src="http://thestar.com.my/archives/2007/9/8/lifeliving/f_26nightvision.jpg" align="left">Any caving enthusiast worth her salt will tell you each caver should carry at least three light sources. The main source should preferably be a headlamp that can withstand harsh treatment and exposure to mud and humidity. For secondary light, a waterproof flashlight would be sufficient. Regular cavers vouch for the small Mini-Mag that can be carried in your pocket or around the neck.

The third light source can either be a second flashlight, a candle, a cigarette lighter or a chemical light that can be found at camping supply stores. These light sources are best kept for emergency situations when you need to remain in one place while waiting to be rescued.

But what if you could get a watch that could double up as an emergency light source? That would be neat, wouldn’t it?

WOW, a $300.00 3rd light source...Think I'll stick with my Timex! OR...buy a Sten light and duct tape my Timex to it.
