Caves draw adventurers into the dark

PONCA, Ark. -- Moments after making his way down a steep slope in a cave near the Buffalo National River, Mike Slay paused to take in the view.

Looking up at a shaft of light coming through the entrance, he said, “Looks like the stairway to heaven, doesn’t it?”

Getting to that vantage point wasn’t easy.
