Aussie Outback "Bone Diggers" on NOVA

Postby Cheryl Jones » Jun 15, 2007 10:31 am

In "Bone Diggers," NOVA takes viewers to the stark Australian outback in search of the elusive bones of one of the world's most bizarre prehistoric creatures--a giant predatory marsupial called Thylacoleo. Some of Australia's leading paleontologists endure extreme weather, treacherous drops into a deep cavern, and the threat of fossil poachers as they launch a daring expedition to find the rare megabeast.

"Bone Diggers" will premiere Tuesday, June 19 at 8:00 pm on most PBS stations. Check your local listings to confirm when it will be broadcast near you: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/schedule-local.html

Thylacoleo and others were found by cavers in South Australia (Nullarbor), the cavers were congratulated for doing the right thing and not disturbing any of the bones until they could get qualified people in from Western Australia (Western Australia Museum) the cavers also had too keep very quiet about thier discovery until the bones had been recovered and protection for the site could be organised. Good Job guys :kewl:

There was HUGE media attension when the find was made public.
