Lake Drains into Lava Tube

So, once the lake drains all the way, why couldn't a caver explore the lava tube? Or, when the lake is full, a caver diver do the same?

I find it strange that the first report of this phenomenon comes from a British newspaper.
Have no cavers in Oregon investigated this? Although the lake might not drain 'all the way', it should be possible to divert the remaining water from draining down the hole, long enough to take a look.
And has no-one looked at where the water might resurge?

This is phenomenon is known as a ' Turlough lake'. Mostly when the groundwater level lowers the above lake starts to drain to fill the grondwater table again.
