Cave diver picks up award for attempted rescue.

Postby BrianFrank » Aug 16, 2012 1:11 pm

Good story and a brave man.

This must be a misprint: "Richard Stanton, of Allesley Old Road, reached depths of more than 800 metres in a courageous effort...". Must have meant he went 800' metres into the cave (horizontally).

Too bad this did not happen  "We had expected to find him alive because it was believed there would be air pockets in the cave..."

Rick Stanton is an awesome guy. One of the VERY BEST cave divers in the world. His list of accomplishments could go on for pages! And he's really nice, too. :woohoo:

That was a really sad story about the guy that died.

However, I will have to put in a plug for Edd Sorenson. He just *rescued* a girl from an underwater cave about a week or two ago. His SECOND rescue. Incredible.

That was the sad incident concerning the death of French cave diver Eric Establie who died in the Dragonniere de Gaud cave in the Ardèche in France. It was 900 metres into the cave at a depth of 70 metres.

Brian,
Here is a link to the thread that will tell you all about the rescue effort.

It was really something to follow and kept us on the edge of our seat as we watched it all unfold. Many Thanks to Yvonne Droms for keeping us up to speed and translating it for us.

I just read the entire thread. That is an amazing effort. Maybe I misread the posts, but one thing that seems confusing and the updates by Droms doesn't expand on, is what was the tapping communication coming from and were the divers mistaken by the items left at the blockage. If the dive computer was correct he couldn't have done any of that.
