Exploring Howe Caverns for a good cause

Postby nathanroser » Feb 26, 2012 10:06 pm

I kind of stole the headline from one of the news channels but this Saturday the 25th, eighteen of us northeastern cavers had some wet fun in Howe's Cave.

Crews from 2 different stations actually followed us into the cave with their fancy cameras.

They even aired footage that was filmed in the low airspace! (By a brave caver of course)

There's more to the story but I'll put that in the Trips and Expeditions thread.

This was the third time that northeastern cavers rallied to help the flood victims of the Schoharie region following Tropical Storm (Hurricane) Irene. The Fall NRO auction and Northeastern Cave Conservancy Barn Dance also dedicated all proceeds to flood relief. Total raised by cavers to date: $6,946.

Many thanks given to area landowners who have graciously permitted cavers to explore and study their caves. It's been a great way to give back, along with many days of labor, including cavers in helmets, lights, coveralls, etc. cleaning out basements and crawlspaces where others decline to tread.
