This was obviously the work of aliens. They are building a labyrinth of hidden chambers in preparation for their upcoming invasion in 2012.

I have seen sinks delvelop like this one over the years here in the Md/Pa area. Not as big though, but close. These rarely open up. It is dangerous to get on the rim of such a thing. A person could get a quick trip to the bottom if the rim edge lets loose. Perhaps an underground Cro-Magnon meeting chamber had collapsed causing the sink. :yikes:

Let me just stroll right over to the very edge of this reputably unstable sink and broadcast my news report. I think she earned herself the title of "spelunker-journalist"... lol.

Just saw the pics and the video. That's impressive. And a little creepy.

I spent my boyhood in Erick, OK - just down old highway 66 from Sayre. This country is dry and flat. Surface soil is mostly sand, underlain by massive layers of gypsum. I suspect that a solution channel in the gypsum gave way, creating the sinkhole. There is a fairly well-known small cave just outside Erick that is a single solution pathway running about a quarter of a mile. No formations or activity, and it lies very shallow underground, less than 30 feet.

Chances are that the Sayre sinkhole is very similar.
