not sure what year any human will be breaking that pits barrier! But dang...makes us wonder if any actual passage is present?! It'll take more then a SRT to delve into this area

Come on NASA! Give me the appropriate length of rope, a suitable cavers space suit for the conditions, and a few other contendees and i'll bounce that pit...What ya say?
There's nothing that makes me more excited than finding a place underground that no one has ever seen or been in!

Mars is probably a good place to look for caves. Considering the sheer massiveness of other geologic features that were likely made by water, there are probably huge caves there. Things that make Han Son Doong or the Dwarrodelf from Lord of the Rings look tiny.

Basalt doesn't dissolve in water.
Darkness is impossible to remember. Consequently, cavers desire to return to the unseen depths where they have just been.
Darkness never satisfies. Darkness cannot satisfy. Especially if it takes something away, which it almost invariably does.

Great pics in that link, thanks!
Letting the days go by / water flowing underground
Into the blue again / in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones / there is water underground.
